Toward the middle of December, we had around 4 inches of rain in 2 days, some of which came down during a big thunderstorm. The day of work following was cold and wet, but rewarding!
With hundreds of cattle out on wheat pasture, the storms during the middle of the night caused a lot of them to walk through fences and get mixed up. Cattle tend to move into the weather/wind and the storms had a lot of them walking north right through the 1-strand hot wire fence that is put up temporarily around the wheat fields. Under normal conditions, the 1-strand is plenty, but in storms and blowing rain, it wasn't enough. Since the fields were so wet, there was concern that the cattle would damage the wheat so we needed to get them moved back into the pens where they could be fed and let the moisture soak back into the ground. With the wet fields, we couldn't use trucks or 4-wheelers, so we got out the trusty horses and herded them back in.

There was a group of about 50-60 heifers that were on the wrong side of the bridge so we had to help them get back across so they could be put into the pens. Cattle are cautious and it took a while to get them to cross through the water.
Drew and Gage helped us that day and it was much appreciated!
