The 2nd half of our beach trip brought sunny days and more fun for Henry in the ocean. The whole trip went by so fast and it was over before we were ready, as always. Enjoy!
One thing the week didn't bring us was a good night's rest...Henry thought it was play time most nights and we were pretty exhausted most of our trip. Very different than what vacation meant before having a baby...sigh. Henry's naps during our trip were fairly productive and he even learned how to nap on the beach by the end of the week. Tuesday night, he stayed up for hours and we were both delirious by morning, so my mom took H on a stroller ride around the block to see if he would take a nap...it worked!
Hey guys, it's playtime!
Maybe we should do this at home?
Wednesday August 6th was Samuel's 18th Birthday! We had a birthday dinner earlier in the week (didn't get pictures) and he celebrated exactly how he wanted to - by fishing with his big brother starting first thing in the morning!
Birthday boy's morning catch!
Happy Bday Uncle Sam!
We gave the beach another shot on Wednesday and Henry did well until he rubbed sand in his eye...it was all over after that! Here are a few pictures before he got fussy.
Meghan and Jessica came out to the beach with us before they had to leave

Checking things out after his nap
We're not really sure what happened (we think it was sand in the eye) but H all of a sudden just hit a wall and was fussy. It was a crazy afternoon of a fussy boy complete with hysterical crying and rubbing of the eyes - which resulted in this...
How pitiful is that?!?
I flushed his eyes with saline and finally got him to sleep, then after a 2 hour nap, he woke up rested and fine. Thank goodness! So much for getting a tan on vacation...I quickly learned that going to the beach with an infant is anything but a sun tanning trip haha!
Papa cleaned most of the fish for the boys
Wednesday night, we went on a double date with our friends Jennifer and Davis at Barefoot Landing - we ate at The Flying Fish and it was great! It was so much fun to have a night out sans kids and we had a blast. Just wish we lived closer to them :(
Thursday was another fun day on the beach. I felt like we were figuring out how to keep H happy and sand-free (in his eyes), so the day went a lot smoother. My mom dug Henry a sand pit so as the tide came in, it filled with water - something she used to do for us when we were little. He loved it! Just had to keep a close watch on those little hands - they'd have a handful of sand headed straight to the mouth before you know it haha!

My friend Jennifer and her two kids joined us at the beach toward the end of the day. Chance had taken H back to the house for a nap and to get started on the fish and crabs for supper. Jennifer's kids were both born here in Myrtle so they love the water and the beach. Thomas is a little fish in the water and he loved jumping in the waves.

Davis joined us after work and we all had a great supper together. It meant so much to spend time with Jennifer and her family - it seems like yesterday we were in college together and now we both have husbands and kids and life gets crazier all the time. Hopefully we'll be able to make this a tradition to see them once a year (at least) and our kids will get to grow up together!
Ama feeding H supper
Thursday night we had a delicious supper of crabs and fish that Samuel and Chance caught during the week. Davis cooked the blue crabs and Chance friend the fish - it turned out awesome! Papa made some of his famous hush puppies, Nana made her slaw (my favorite) and we chowed down!
Friday was our last day on the beach and we made the most of it. We all got up early and hurried out as soon as H's morning nap was over so we could enjoy every bit of the day.

My dad came to the beach straight from a horse sale and we had a little mix up about where we were flying out of. He ended up going back toward Raleigh to get the horse on Thursday so he didn't have to take such a long trip home. This meant the horse was with us at the beach for the last couple of days...and of course, the boys had to get him out and play a little.
Full Moon High tide - it was almost in the yard!

The 5 hour ride to the airport was tiring for everyone (including me who was VERY car sick:( )
Our trip home turned into another adventure, but not one that was fun or exciting. Henry ended up spiking a high fever (almost 104) on the flights home and gave us quite the scare. The fever stuck around through the weekend and went away by Monday afternoon. Turned out to be a virus and he didn't get any other symptoms except being super clingy to mommy & daddy for a couple of days (which I didn't complain about!).
Other than our little scare on the way home, our trip was awesome! We're going to try making it a yearly tradition and can't wait to go back next year. Now, back to reality!
