Our Crazy Life: Memorial Day Weekend 2015

Memorial Day weekend was spent at the Sharon ranch (where our cows spend the summer) again this year and we had a great time! It's been a busy few weeks since then, so I'm late getting our pictures posted (as usual)! Warning - it's another long one!

The weekend started out with a haircut for Henry. He is super squirmy and it's hard to keep him occupied unless he gets a sucker! DumDum's for the win!! It seems like his hair is starting to fill in but it's still funny how the front cowlick just keeps it a mess all the time.

Uncle Sam is still here and Henry LOVES having him around (I may love it a little too :)). Henry hasn't mastered saying Sam's name yet...but it's starting to come out as "See" which is a good start. Sam's been playing ball with Henry a lot and he's getting good at tossing it back and forth. First thing he does when he comes home is look for his ball and it's a big deal (aka a meltdown) if we can't find it!

On Saturday morning, we all got up early and finished packing for our weekend at the ranch. We had a lot of unseasonable rain during the week before and woke up to more rain on Saturday morning. Since the Sharon ranch is in a very rural area, we were all concerned that the roads wouldn't be passable, especially with a truck and trailer full of horses. Chance headed out early so he could beat some of the rain, and I was about about an hour behind him with Henry and Cinch. It was quite the nailbiter of a drive and I don't mind if I don't have to offroad with my kid in the car anytime soon!

Chance's parents weren't far behind me and Henry was very excited to see them. Grandpa brought Henry a toy tractor that makes noises and it was his favorite toy of the weekend. We were thankful Grandpa brought it since we were stuck in the house for the entire day on Saturday while it literally rained ALL day.

Our friend Drew and also our friends Rodney and Sadie joined us later that day and they all had quite the adventure getting into the ranch. Rodney & Sadie's truck and trailer (with horses) kept getting stuck, and Sadie ended up riding them in while Rodney drove the truck and trailer. She's such a trooper!

While Henry took his afternoon nap, Chance and I went to check the water gaps (fences around the creeks) so we can move the cows to this side of the ranch the following weekend. We rotate the cows to different pastures to help the grass regrow. We will rotate the cows to different pastures every 2-3 weeks (depending on the moisture we get from Mother Nature) and that will give the pastures a chance to have plenty of grass for the cows.

While we were riding, Sam and our friend Drew were fishing like pros out on one of the ponds. Sam ended up catching a 50lb carp and it took both him and Drew 45 minutes to get him into the boat. It was HUGE!

When Henry woke up from his nap, we took him for a ride on Slate. First he rode with me and then by himself. He LOVES riding and when you stop moving, he says "ride, ride" and "more ride" and anything else he can think to say...it's so adorable. What a lucky little boy to learn the joy of riding at his age :)

Little fact about Henry - he doesn't sleep when we travel. Even though this boy has traveled since a VERY young age, he still doesn't sleep well when he travel unless he's in a crib to keep him contained. We opted not to take the pack n' play because we thought he would do better either on the blow-up toddler bed or with us, but it was a super bad choice. He is normally asleep by 7:30 or 8PM at the latest and he sleeps until at least 7:00AM most mornings. At 10:00PM we were still fighting him about going to bed and he was definitely not a happy camper...

The next morning the boys went for some rides on the gator to check the roads and see how easy or hard it was going to be for us to leave. Of course, Henry had to go for a ride even though we hadn't gotten dressed yet :)

After we all got dressed and laundry started, we headed to one of the ponds to do some fishing. Grandpa and Grammie got Henry a Mickey Mouse fishing pole, and Chance was determined to take him fishing before we left. Henry had a great time, but he enjoyed splashing in the water and didn't care too much about the fishing part yet. I had to remind Daddy that it was more about him having fun than catching fish this time...maybe next year it'll be about the fish :)
